Reverse Osmosis or RO filters are advanced improvements in the field of water filtration. By having the water pass through a membrane, the RO filtration process can eliminate almost all soluble substances in the water. Even the most impure of waters can be made fresh using the RO process.

Advantages of and RO filter

• RO filters are able to eliminate almost all soluble substances such as fluoride and lead in the water. RO filters are also able to kill and remove harmful organisms from the water
• RO filters can improve the taste and odour of the water by removing chemicals that cause bad odours and tastes
• RO filters are easy and cheap to maintain

Disadvantages of and RO filter

• RO filters require electricity to operate, as proper water pressure has to be achieved in order to obtain maximum efficiency
• RO filters produce a high amount of wastewater. Impurities or chemicals that are removed from the water will be washed away along with the wastewater through a pipe. For every 10 liters of water flowing through the filter, about 5 liters of wastewater will be produced
