Things you should know before purchasing a water filter: part 2

Sediment Filters

Sediment filters are made of different materials, but the most common one used is Polypropylene. We call filters that are made of Polypropylene PP filters.

There are many types of sediment filters. The first is the Pleated Sediment Filter. This filter has a higher surface area for filtering impurities, as the filter is folded over and over again. As time goes by, it becomes more effective due to the fact that the trapped sediment will help aid in the filtering of impurities.

The second type of filter is the PP Melt Blown. This type of filter has a thicker area, so as the water flows into the denser center, the filter is able to trap more impurities. This filter works well as it is able to filter particles that are less than 10 microns in size.

Another type of filter is the String Wound PP. This type of filter is made of small strings wounded around a core. The strings are usually made of Polypropylene and works by having water flow through its many layers.

For household uses, sediment filters are usually either 10 inches or 20 inches in height, with a diameter of 2 or 4 inches.
