Things you should know before purchasing a water filter: part 5

Water treatment through Reverse Osmosis or RO System

Reverse Osmosis is a new system of water treatment that produces cleaner and fresher water by passing it through a membrane through the process of reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis is a water treatment system that get rids of soluble chemicals and can even make brackish water clean and fresh.

Advantages of a RO water filter

  • RO filters are able to get rid of most soluble chemicals, such as lead and fluorine, as well as being able to get rid of harmful viruses and bacteria. smell
  • RO filters are able to improve the taste and odour of the water by removing chemicals that causes water to have a bad taste and smell.
  • RO filters are durable, have a long lifetime and are easy to maintain and repair in the case of damage.

Disadvantages of a RO water filter

  • Ro filters require electricity to operate due to it having to push water at high pressure through the filter membrane.
  • RO filters produce a high amount of wastewater. Any chemical removed will be disposed of with this wastewater. For every 10 liters of water flowing through the RO filter, 5 liters of waste water will have to be disposed of.
