Things you should know before purchasing a water filter: part 9

Water purifiers can range from 2 stages to more than 6 stages. Each individual stage has its own function, which can lead to the questions: "How many stages should I use?" and "Are multiple stage filters better than 1 stage filter?" Part 9

The more stages a water purifier has, the better it is as the water that flows through it comes into contact with a higher number of filters. These filters can range from Carbon Block Filters, GAC filters, KDF filters and more. Despite this, more stages might not always be better, as purifiers with more filters would have a higher maintenance cost, would need more space, and might even remove healthy substances from your water. This is why when purchasing a water purifier, the number of stages should not be the only factor when making your decision.

Things to consider when purchasing a water purifier:

  1. The type of the filter

The number of filters may be an indicator of the effectiveness of the filter, but you have to make sure that each filter is different and not just many of the same.

  2. Maintenance cost

The higher number of filter the purifier has, the higher it would cost to maintain.

  3. The water flow

If there are too many stages, the flow of the water may decrease. Some filters are required to go through the process of pre-filter, such as the Carbon Block Filter. Nevertheless, the flow of many of the water filters, such as alkaline filters or sediment filters requires you to decide on whether you want alkaline water or freshwater.
